Verizon takes Samsung’s side
We have reported on law suites and pending battle of Samsung and Apple. The battle continues albeit no so much in United States as law suites here have not progressed as far, but in some countries in Europe Samsung attempts to ban iPhone 5.
Verizon in US takes Samsung side as they attempt to protest against Apple’s request for a nation-wide injunction against Samsung and their 4 products. These products are Galaxy S 4G, Droid Charge smartphones, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Infuse 4G. Verizon argues that stopping distribution of these 4 Samsung products would would act against interest of american people as well as developing of high-speed LTE network, job creation associated with it. In Verizon’s own words:
“would hinder Verizon Wireless in developing and deploying its next generation high-speed LTE [fourth-generation] network, the job growth dependent [sic] on that network, and will undercut key public policy goals, including expansion of American’s [sic] access to broadband networks and faster communication with emergency personnel.”
Verizon has been voicing their opinions pretty strongly when they suggested that President Barack Obama should use his presidential veto
“against possible ITC import bans against Apple’s as well as Android-based devices, filed a motion for leave (a request for permission) to file an amicus curiae brief in support of Samsung ahead of a court hearing scheduled for October 13, after which there might be a preliminary injunction against four relatively new Android-based Samsung products.”
An amicus curiae (friend of the court) brief is a third party like Verizon to voice their opinions in the matter at hand. Judge hasn’t yet decided on whether Verizon is such friend.
Verizon has been a key player in allowing android devices to enter US market. They’re not so much against Apple’s products as they themselves carry iPhone, but rather against Apples ways to block competition. Let’s see how Apple Verizon relationship evolves after this.
