Any iOS requires that you load the application to see it’s content. Why? I don’t know. It simply does not support widgets. Android application allows you to see a preview without launching the full app. One developer figured out how to use iPhone notification system to show your current temperature in the right corner of the screen. So, instead of a number of messages waiting for you you get a temperature reading. Now you know, without opening Fahrenheit weather app whether to grab an umbrella or snowshoes.
